The Fondation pour l’innovation politique was a partner of the first International Forum on Agriculture, Planet A. Placed under the High Patronage of the President of the French Republic, this initiative took place in Châlons-en-Champagne on 28 and 29 June 2018 and brought together 400 business leaders, researchers, academics, NGO representatives and public actors from around the world.
Since we live in an open world, the challenges facing world agriculture require global mobilisation. The Planet A collective was thus formed around the conviction that agriculture must bring about viable solutions, by making proposals at the level of States and organisations, by strengthening constructive exchanges between actors concerned by agriculture, whatever their sector of activity (food, energy, transport, industry, construction, cosmetics, etc.) or their regional prisms (Europe, Africa, Asia, America, Australia).
From the outset, the Fondation pour l’innovation politique has been associated with Planet A. The initiator of the project, Benoist Apparu, Mayor of Châlons-en-Champagne, wanted us to contribute to the reflection and organisation of this “hub” whose ambition is to accelerate the agricultural revolution by intensifying the transfer and sharing of knowledge.
During this event, plenary sessions led by experts, talks led by innovators from around the world and various workshops helped define major strategic challenges and come up with innovative proposals.
Dominique Reynié, Executive Director of the Fondation pour l’innovation politique, was one of the two general rapporteurs of the Forum and presented the conclusions of the various working groups. These ideas are the basis of a reflection led by the Scientific Committee to formalise the proposals set out in the Planet A “Open Book”, which is intended to feed into reflections at the highest level in 2018 and 2019 (G20 of Ministers of Agriculture, One Planet Summit, COP24, the agricultural component of the G7 placed under the French presidency in 2019, global and regional events, etc.) and lead to concrete and lasting commitments.
The Global Forum in June 2018 represents the launch of this initiative, which is intended to continue over time in the form of an annual international summit.
